America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on January 3rd. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owner April Reefer about the restaurant’s special place in the community. The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.

The Hop began as a dream of John “Hoppy” Haight, Reefer’s late husband, an outdoor enthusiast and fan of the Red River Gorge area. His greatest days were spent hiking, climbing, and exploring the beautiful region followed by relaxing with friends and family over a drink. Reefer made the dream a reality as a tribute to him.

The restaurant offers a seasonal, rotating menu of dishes featuring local ingredients and has over 100 beers available.  Specialty cocktails like “The Holler” (Old Forester bourbon with a splash of lime and triple sec, topped with Cherry Ale-8-One over ice) is a popular draw. 

Other favorite menu items that may be included in the episode include the taco plate – fillings include beef, egg, fried green tomatoes, chorizo, fish, or sweet potato and black beans and come with a side of house-made corn chips. Weekend brunch items include biscuits with local sausage gravy, local honey or local jelly and pear oatmeal bake with chia seeds and vegan yogurt. 

The Hop hosts live music and special events like Taco Tuesday, Hibachi Wednesday, and Saturday brunch. Vegetarian and vegan options for many items are available as well. The local ingredients available for each week are listed on the restaurant’s web page. 

In keeping with the restaurant’s commitment to environmental stewardship, the building is made up of recycled shipping containers. Reefer is the Director of the Center for Environmental Education at Morehead State University.  

America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Wednesday January 3rd from 2 pm to 5 pm EST. The press is invited to attend.
